NSU Given Gold Recognition by American Heart Association
NSU was recently given gold recognition status by the American Heart Association for companies who are participating in the Start! Fit-Friendly program. The program recognizes employers that champion the health of their employees and work to create a culture of physical activity at the workplace.
NSU also received the Community Innovation Award. In order to win gold recognition, an organization has to provide its employees access to things that will help improve their health. These could include gyms, walking paths, nutritious foods, etc. NSU’s Wellness Committee, which provides employees with many healthy initiatives, is a big reason why NSU received gold recognition. Some of those initiatives and programs include the NSU Health & Wellness Fair, NSU “A Day for Children”, Shark Shuffle 5k Run/Walk, Biggest Loser, Wellness Day, Boomers and Beyond: A Day for Health & Wellness, Healthy Sharks, Wellness Made Simple – NSU’s Wellness Magazine, Wellness Champions, Know Your Numbers, Shark Shape-Up, NSU immunization program, and more.
In total, 931 companies nationwide were recognized by the American Heart Association in the Start! Fit-Friendly program. Of those, 168 companies received platinum recognition, 763 received gold recognition, 44 companies were honored as the Worksite Innovation Award winners, and 17 were honored as Community Innovation Award winners.
