NSU Computing Technology Student Named Teacher of the Year at School in Georgia

Sergio Parra, a doctoral computing technology education (DCTE) student in NSU’s Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences was elected the new 2010-2011 teacher of the year at Osborne Middle School in Gwinnet County, Ga. 

Osborne is one of the 123 schools operated by Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) in Georgia. With more than 161,000 students and 11,000 teachers, GCPS is the 14th largest district in the nation. 

In the race for the election of the teacher of the year in Gwinnet County, the school district narrowed its search to the top 25 semifinalists on Sept. 28, including Parra. The top 25 is formed by 15 elementary teachers, 5 middle school teachers, and 5 high school teachers. Parra was selected from the initial impressive list of 123 local school teachers of the year who were nominated by their colleagues at their local schools.
