NSU Computer Science School Student Co-Authors Paper in Information Security Journal
Angel R. Otero, a doctoral student at NSU’s Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences, co-authored a paper that was published in the Oct. 2010 issue of the International Journal of Network Security & Its Applications.
The paper titled “A Multi-Criteria Evaluation of Information Security Controls Using Boolean Features” proposes a novel approach for evaluating information security controls to help organizations select the most effective ones in resource-constrained environments.
The approach uses Desirability Functions to quantify the desirability of each information security control taking into account benefits and restrictions associated with implementing the control. Through a case study, the approach was proven successful in providing a way for measuring the quality of information security controls (based on multiple application-specific criteria) for specific organizations.
Otero wrote the paper with the collaboration of professors Carlos E. Otero, Ph.D, and Abrar Qureshi, Ph.D., both from the Department of Mathematics and Computer Sciences at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise.
