NSU Computer Programming Team Competes in Regional Contest

On Nov. 10, three undergraduate students from the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences representing NSU’s computer programming team competed in the 2012 Association for Computing Machinery Southeast Regional Programming Contest. The competition took place at the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne.
NSU’s team included computer science majors Sharbel Bousemaan, Antonio Mentegulaga, and Ryan del Rosario, who competed in the contest for the second consecutive year. Paul Kenison, D.Sc., Ph.D., associate professor in the college, continued his role as the team’s coach.
This year’s contest marked the first time that the region’s teams competed within two divisions; with NSU’s team formed a part of Division II. During the event, each team worked to solve 10 computer-programming problems ranging in difficulty. The NSU computer programming team out-scored 11 other teams competing in Division II.
“Our team represented NSU well, even though only one of the three students had ever participated in a programming contest previously,” Kenison said. “I continue to be pleased with our students’ dedication to the competition each year.”
