NSU Community Invited to Tour the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Mobile Center, Jan. 23

Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) Institute for the Study of Human Service, Health and Justice, in collaboration with the Fort Lauderdale Veterans Center, will welcome staff from the Department of Veterans Affairs and their Mobile Veterans Center on Wednesday, Jan. 23.
Students, faculty, staff and the community at large are invited to come out and meet the staff and tour the Mobile Vet Center from:
10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. – on Ray Ferrero, Jr. Blvd
(Circular Drive between the Alvin Sherman Library and Carl DeSantis Building on NSU’s main campus in Davie)
The Department of Veterans Affairs expanded their fleet of Mobile Vet Centers during 2012 by deploying approximately 20 new vehicles across the continental United States, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico.
Designed to increase access to counseling services for Veterans, service-members, and their families, the customized American-made vehicles contain confidential counseling rooms where staff can meet individually or jointly with Veterans and their family members.
The Mobile Vet Centers serve as ‘mobile offices’ and are equipped with state-of-the-art satellite communications systems, that enable staff to securely access patients’ computerized medical records, provide a broad range of medical and benefits referral services, employment counseling, and many other services.
The overarching goal of the mobile centers is to reach out into the community, assisting Veterans in their readjustment to civilian life – regardless of the combat zone or era in which the Veterans served.
Veterans and their family members don’t have to wait for the Mobile Vet Center to get help. Call 1 (877)WAR-VETS (1-877-927-8387), a 24/7 Veteran Center toll-free number to speak with other combat Veterans who are trained counselors with knowledge of the VA and other valuable resources to assist Veterans and their family get much needed services.
