As heart disease continues to be our nation’s number one killer, the NSU of Pharmacy (COP) at the Palm Beach Campus stepped forward to support the American Heart Association (AHA) by fundraising and taking part at the 2013 Palm Beach Heart Walk.

With the support of NSU’s Palm Beach Student Government Association (PB SGA) and fellow pharmacy student organizations: American Pharmacists Association – Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA- ASP) and professional pharmacy fraternity Alpha Zeta Omega Psi Chapter (AZO), the team was able to raise more than $1,300 for the heart health cause.

“As the event organizer, I was skeptical and optimistic at the same time with each fundraising goal we pushed past,” said Yee Ni Sung, Pharm.D., Candidate 2015, PB SGA president and APhA-ASP PB Operation heart chair.

“I had a solid belief in our students’ abilities to fundraise and felt so excited when our efforts continued to reach new heights,” said Zaher Hajar, Pharm.D., COP’s senior Consumer Health Informatics fellow and APhA-ASP PB advisor.

On the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 28, NSU Palm Beach students, faculty, friends and family teamed up to walk in downtown West Palm Beach.

Palm Beach campus faculty members Mohammad Shawaqfeh, Pharm.D.; Feroza Sircar-Ramsewak, Pharm.D.; and Sarah Alameddine, Pharm.D., junior Consumer Health Informatics fellow; all agreed they enjoyed the walk and that it was rewarding to join the students for a great cause on such a beautiful day.
