NSU College of Pharmacy Hosts Visiting Professor from Slovakia
Ana Castejon, Ph.D. and Magdaléna Kuželová, Ph.D.
Nova Southeastern University College of Pharmacy (NSU COP) has the unique opportunity to partner with the Erasmus Programme, an international program that promotes the exchange of students and faculty members from colleges and universities within the European Union. The College of Pharmacy welcomed Magdaléna Kuželová, Ph.D., from Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovak Republic, the predominate and oldest university in Bratislava, celebrating its 65th anniversary this year.
Kuželová, professor of pharmacology at the Faculty of Pharmacy for over 43 years, is head of the Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy Division in the Department of Pharmacology and To
xicology. Her current research is concentrated on experimental cardiovascular pharmacology and psychiatric medications in patients at risk such as the elderly and young children. Kuželová is involved in several activities related to regulatory affairs of medicines in the Slovak Republic and has published nearly 100 scientific publications both in domestic and international journals. Furthermore, she has taught many students in the Erasmus Programme from EU countries such as Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Slovenia. While at NSU COP, Kuželová met with faculty, students, and residents to share her background, experience, and current research endeavors.
This summer Jose Valdes, Pharm.D., assistant professor, College of Pharmacy, will visit and teach at Comenius University, and Erik Puchoň, a graduate student from Comenius University, will study and conduct research at NSU, as part of the ongoing Erasmus collaboration.
Ana Castejon, Ph.D, Associate Professor, College of Pharmacy, has worked closely with other researchers from Comenius University conducting autism research and travel study programs as part of an agreement between the two institutions. This has allowed NSU COP to host research faculty and students from Comenius. This year she is again coordinating the college’s travel study program to Comenius University in Bratislava, where students will have the opportunity to study topics such as molecular drug design, botany, and pharmacognosy, visit local pharmacies and hospitals, and experience the practice of pharmacy in Slovakia and the European Union with Comenius University’s faculty.
