NSU College of Pharmacy Florida Society of Health-System Pharmacists-Student Chapter Wins State Clinical Skills Competition
Every year, NSU College of Pharmacy (COP) students participate in the local Florida Society of Health-System Pharmacists-Student Chapter (FSHP-SC) Clinical Skills Competition held on campus. The competition gives students the opportunity to apply their knowledge and practice making drug-related recommendations. It prepares these future pharmacists for the experience of working with other health care professionals to provide direct patient care. Winners move on to participate in the national competition held by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).
In September, more than 40 pairs of students across all three COP campuses (Davie, FL; Palm Beach, FL; and Ponce, Puerto Rico) participated in the written component of this competition followed by the top 10 teams qualifying for the second round held in October.
Sydney Kchao (Class of 2014) and Priya Sahadeo (Class of 2014) took first place in the NSU competition and moved on to compete in the inaugural FSHP clinical skills competition held in Orlando, FL. They faced the other five schools of pharmacy in the state of Florida and won the first state clinical skills competition! They will continue to represent NSU COP at the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists national competition this December. Go Sharks!
