Jose Valdes, Pharm.D., BCPP, speaks about medical marijuana at La Posada Senior Living Center in Palm Beach Gardens

Jose Valdes, Pharm.D., BCPP, assistant professor, NSU College of Pharmacy, Palm Beach Campus, recently spoke about medical marijuana at La Posada Senior Living Center in Palm Beach Gardens. The lecture was in partnership with NSU’s Lifelong Learning Institute.

Valdez explored the history of marijuana use and abuse, legalization of medicinal/recreational marijuana, societal implications, and potential risks/benefits of using marijuana. Additionally, he detailed the steps of how to properly obtain marijuana and the approved indications based on the legalization of medical marijuana in Florida.

Residents asked many questions about the use of medical marijuana and potential risks, as well as qualifications and educational requirements of prescribers. Additionally, residents shared stories pertaining to their personal use of obtaining marijuana from other states prior to moving to Florida and its effects on them. Overall the presentation was well received by the lively crowd, and the ensuing discussion spurred interesting questions for the future.
