Sara Berke-Silva, O.D., NSU optometric resident, class of ’14, received the Dr. Lenny Cherdack Student Legislative Award at the Florida Optometric Association (FOA) annual convention which was held on July 24-27 at the Boca Raton Resort & Club in Boca Raton. This award recognizes the student who exhibits professional behavior consistent with the high ideals and moral ethics of organized optometry. It recognizes one who has demonstrated outstanding dedication to the profession, the Florida Optometric Association, and the legislative process, including representing the optometry field at the Florida Capital.

“I feel so honored to have received this award and to be among the other great student leaders who have received this award in the past,” said Berke-Silva. “It’s nice to know that the FOA has appreciated my involvement over the last four years, and now I just have to continue making them proud in the years to come!”

Additionally, Roxanne Buffano, O.D., class of ’09, was named Young Optometrist of the Year, and Kenny Boyle, O.D., FAAO, class of ’94, was named Optometrist of the Year.
