Gustavo Ferrer, M.D.

Gustavo Ferrer, M.D.

Gustavo Ferrer, M.D., clinical assistant professor at NSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, has authored a new book, Cough Cures. He is hosting a book launch party on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 in the atrium of NSU’s Carl DeSantis Building. The event will feature special prize drawings, so make sure you register upon arrival.

Why is educating yourself about coughs important? Here are just a few reasons among many:

  • Coughing is one of the three most common reasons for unnecessary doctor’s visits,
  • Most medical organizations and prestigious medical journals agree that over-the-counter cough suppressants don’t work,
  • Acute cough illness is the number one reason for the overuse and abuse of antibiotics thus contributing to the development of multidrug resistant bacteria.

Ferrer is an internationally recognized pulmonologist, founder of the Cough Clinic at Cleveland Clinic Florida, and was invited to the White House to discuss the Affordable Care Act. A pulmonary and critical care specialist, he received medical training both in his native Cuba and in the U.S. He has delivered more than 50 educational lectures at local, national, and international medical meetings and is currently involved in more than 20 research studies. He has received several prestigious awards including being listed among the Best Doctors in the U.S. by U.S. News and World Report, Most Compassionate Doctor, Patient’s Choice Award, as well as multiple teaching awards. He is also a leading member of the National Hispanic Medical Association, and he currently represents Hispanic physicians on the national steering committee of the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Alliance.
