NSU Business Students to Compete in Collegiate Real Estate Challenge

NSU NAIOP Challenge Team

James Baxter, Claudia Gutarra, Joel Garcia, Hugo Hernandez, Mark McCann, Andrew Remick and Kenny Tharrington

On April 5, seven students from the Huizenga Business School’s M.S. in Real Estate Development program will compete against teams of graduate students from the real estate programs at the University of Miami and Florida International University in the 2012 Collegiate Real Estate Challenge. The annual competition is presented by the South Florida Chapters of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) and the Urban Land Institute (ULI).

The NSU team currently holds the travelling trophy after winning the inaugural competition in 2010. This year’s team has been mentored by four members of the Huizenga Business School’s M.S./RED Advisory Board as well as Michael Maxwell, the Interim Director of the M.S./RED program.

The competition provides an opportunity for the students to showcase their development expertise as they compete in a real world case study provided by the competition’s sponsor, Stiles. Each team was required to create a development strategy that will be judged on economic feasibility, market analysis, design viability, and written and oral presentations. It provides the students with valuable and unique industry exposure.

Presentations will be given at the University of Miami’s Life Science & Technology Park beginning at 5:15 p.m. Networking will follow the presentations at 6:30 p.m., and the evening will end with an awards ceremony at 8 p.m. RSVP and get more information at http://www.naiopsfl.org/ or by calling 954-990-5116.
