NSU Athletics Assists Jason Taylor Foundation’s Cool Gear for the School Year
The Nova Southeastern Athletic Department assisted the Jason Taylor Foundation in their 10th annual Cool Gear for the School Year event Sunday, sending 60 young students on a shopping spree at Old Navy.
The Jason Taylor Foundation gave each student $300 to spend on clothes for the upcoming school year. The foundation also brought in several celebrities to help shop, including former and current Miami Dolphin players, Dolphins and Miami Heat cheerleaders and other local celebrities. Women’s soccer’s Samantha Gestido (Jr., Hialeah, Fla.) Cydney Niedermeyer (So., Fort Myers, Fla.) and baseball’s Alvin Swoope (So., Port St. Lucie, Fla.) and Ryan Woodrey (Sr., Lighthouse Point, Fla.) also served as celebrity shoppers.
Each of the Sharks were assigned to one individual shopper to help them pick out $300 worth of clothes, shoes and school uniforms. Everyone in attendance was treated to a party hosted by Jason Taylor after the shopping spree.
“It was an awesome experience to be a part of,” said Gestido. “The event ran smoothly and I was happy to be there. It was a great opportunity to give back to the community and show them who we are.”
Since launching the program in 2005, the Jason Taylor Foundation has provided more than $180,000 in clothing to nearly 600 deserving kids.
