NSU Associate Director Authors Article on Scuba Diving Safety
Tec Clark, NSU associate director for Aquatics and Scuba Diving, has published an article in Alert Diver Magazine entitled, “Emergency Simulations for Dive Professionals.” The article is a call to scuba diving professionals to conduct routine in-service training exercises which depict as real as possible emergency scenarios. “Scuba diving emergencies may be chaotic, varied, and challenging. All diving professionals have a duty to care and competently respond in diving emergencies,” states Clark. In his article Clark encourages emergency simulations to include the use of actual emergency equipment, dummy phones with an evaluator playing a 911 operator, used wetsuits to be cut off patients, and even bystanders crying or asking questions.
