hrc-news-thumbNSU has joined forces once again with the nonprofit Holocaust Learning and Education Fund, Inc. (HLEF) to sponsor the third annual Holocaust Reflection Contest.

Participating middle and high school students from across Florida studied Holocaust survivor testimonials and created original essays, poems, visual art pieces, and films inspired by what they learned. Winners in each genre have been announced on the contest website and will be recognized at an award ceremony on Sunday, March 19, from 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., in NSU’s Alvin Sherman Library. The winning student projects will be on display. The event will include talks by HLEF Founder and President Craig Weiner and Irving Rosenbaum, D.P.A., Ed.D., Executive Dean and Provost of NSU’s Health Professions Division, as well as a tour of NSU’s Fort Lauderdale/Davie Campus for the visiting students, their families, and their teachers/principals.

First-place winners in each category will be awarded $1000 each, and their respective teachers and schools will receive $500 each. Second-place winners in each category will receive $250 each. On Saturday, March 18, the winners and their families are also invited to join HLEF and NSU leadership members on a field trip to the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Miami Beach followed by a celebratory dinner at NSU’s Fort Lauderdale/Davie campus.
