Gomez

Santiago Gomez

Nova Southeastern University men’s golf alumnus Santiago Gomez is currently representing his native country, Columbia, in the 2016 U.S. Amateur held at Oakland Hills Country Club.

In the stroke-play portion of the tournament, Gomez finished even with a final total of 140 (69-71), good enough to grab the 36th seed heading into head-to-head match play. At 10:00am, the former Shark will face off against LSU golfer, Sam Burns, in his first match of the day.

At most, Gomez will play six matches, needing five wins to qualify for the final round.

A decorated golfer during his time at NSU, Gomez graduated in May 2016 with a degree in business management. As a sophomore in 2015, Gomez finished the year ranked No. 3 in all of DII while being named PING DII Second-Team All-American, PING All-South Region, and SSC All-Conference Second Team. In his junior year, he earned multiple postseason awards after a season in which he finished as the No. 1-ranked golfer in all of Division II and earned the highest individual honor in the NCAA as the Jack Nicklaus Award winner. Gomez was also awarded First-Team PING All-American honors, by the GCAA, was NCAA All-South Region and was named Sunshine State Conference Men’s Golfer of the Year, as well as First Team All-SSC in 2015.
