NSU Alumni Spotlight: Michale F. Gervasi, D.O. (’87)

8-085-14 MCS DAA Program Booklet 2014

Michale F. Gervasi, D.O. (’87)

Michale F. Gervasi, D.O. (’87), is president and CEO for Florida Community Health Centers, Inc., a position that allows him to work with the underserved. In addition to seeing patients, he is responsible for the operations of 11 practice sites and a corporate office, as well as 380 staff members who care for more than 41,000 patients each year.

His honors include NSU’s Samuel L. Salman Award for Excellence in Family Practice, Physician of the Year by Florida Medical Center South, and the Jesse Lee Robinson Memorial Award by Florida Community Health Centers.

Gervasi is a board member for the Region 5 Domestic Security Task Force Healthcare Coalition, chair of the education committee for the Florida Department of Health’s Alliance for Diabetes Prevention and Care, and vice chair of the Florida Chronic Disease Prevention Coalition. He has also worked on behalf of the Kiwanis Club of the City of Sunrise, the Sunrise Youth Athletic Club, the Martin Country Bioterrorism Task Force, and the Rotary Club of Blue Ridge.

In addition to volunteering, Gervasi enjoys spending time with his children and grandchildren, speaking across the country on customer service in health care, country line dancing, and running in marathons. He is proud of the fact that his daughter, Heather Lutz, is also a graduate of NSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine and a family practitioner caring for the underserved.

Gervasi said NSU provided “a quality medical education that has helped me care for patients in a comprehensive manner.” His fondest memories include time spent learning from such mentors as Matthew Terry; Joe Namey, Jr.; and Joe Namey, Sr.
