NSU Alumni Spotlight: Renee Goldenberg, J.D. (’84)

08-085-14 MCS DAA Program Booklet 2014

Renee Goldenberg, J.D. (’84)

Renee Goldenberg, J.D. (’84), has presided as circuit judge for the family division in the 17th Judicial Court, Broward County, since 1997. She also serves as chair of the Family Division and as cochair of the Judicial Outreach Committee, which serves to bridge the judiciary and the community it serves.

Goldenberg is a trustee for The Florida Bar’s family law section; a fellow with the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers; a founding member of the Broward County Matrimonial Lawyers; a founding member and past president of CHARLEE family Care Homes of Broward, Inc.; a life member of Leadership Broward Alumni Association (Class IV); and a life member of the National Council of Jewish Women.

Goldenberg said that NSU facilitated her lifelong dream to become a judge, a dream born from her experience as a child of Holocaust survivors. She was brought to the United States from a displaced persons camp in Germany when she was six months old. “My father pointed out the beauty of the U.S. Constitution and how the balance of powers and the independence of the judiciary were the reasons why we are all safe in America,” Goldenberg said. “I told him I wanted to be a judge when I grew up. He said that, in America, I would have the opportunity to be a judge.”

Every year, Goldenberg has law student interns from NSU’s Shepard Broad Law Center. “I love being part of the NSU family,” she said.

Goldenberg and her husband are world travelers who have experienced most of the wonders of the world and world heritage sites. They also spend as much time as possible with their four grandchildren.
