NSU Alumni Spotlight: Geico Alumni Athlete Of the Month – Aly Hassan
Aly Hassan, October’s Geico Player of the Month
Weston, Florida native and former Nova Southeastern University Shark, Aly Hassan, is October’s Geico Player of the Month.
Hassan played for the NSU men’s soccer team from 2007 through the fall of 2010. He was a two-time first-team All-Sunshine State Conference honoree and is historically one of the team’s most prolific strikers. He ranks fifth in program history with 36 career goals. He scored 13 game-winners in his career, one short of the program record held by NSU Hall-of-Famer Christian Goffi.
After suiting up for the Sharks during his four years of college, Hassan has gained a wealth of experience in various professional soccer clubs. A year ago, while playing for the NASL’s Fort Lauderdale Strikers, Hassan came in as a substitute and scored the goal that put his team in the league’s playoffs in the dying minutes of the match against Ottawa Fury. A few weeks later Hassan and the Strikers advanced to the Championship in San Antonio, Texas.
Just less than a year after Hassan scored this monumental goal, he came back to face the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. This time he was suited in the Ottawa Fury’s red and white uniform. Without error, Hassan came back to Fort Lauderdale to make a presence again, and so he did, scoring one of the two goals that gave Ottawa Fury the win against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. This was Hassan’s second goal with the Fury ever since he joined the team this past summer.
