NSU Alumni Spotlight: FCE Graduate Named Georgia Superintendent of the Year
Steve Barker, Ed.D., graduate of NSU’s Abraham S. Fischler College of Education (FCE) has been named the 2018 Georgia Superintendent of the year by the Georgia School Superintendent’s Association.
Barker is a veteran educator who since 2011, has served as the Superintendent of Coweta County School System, a school district about 30 miles south of Atlanta. Under his leadership, the Coweta County School District has a revised strategic plan (2014-19), the establishment of the school system as a Strategic Waiver System (2015-21) and the re-accreditation of the school system (2016-21), with AdvancED declaring Coweta Schools an “Exemplar System” during the successful system accreditation process. In 2016 and 2017, the school system also made a transition to a Google Learning Environment school system, with Chromebook learning devices issued to all students in grades 3-12.
Barker earned his doctorate of education with the FCE in 2003.
