NSU Alumni Spotlight: David S. Metcalf II, M.S.
David S. Metcalf II, M.S. (’96) and Ph.D. (’98), is the director of the Mixed Emerging Technology Integration Lab at the Institute for Simulation and Training at the University of Central Florida, where he is responsible for mobile, simulation, game, and IT enterprise systems development.
Metcalf is the president of Moving Knowledge, providing advanced learning technologies and innovation services to corporate clients like Johnson & Johnson, Google, Tyco, Lowes, and Avon. Metcalf and his son won Elon Musk’s 400 Mile Grand Challenge by being the first to drive a Tesla Model S more than 400 miles on one charge. In December 2012, he broke the world record for the longest distance in a production electric car at 423.5 miles.
Metcalf credits his success to NSU’s innovative teaching styles. “Working through one of the first fully online programs during the dawn of the Internet unlocked countless opportunities for me at NASA, Kennedy Space Center, and beyond. NSU prepared me to grow with the rise of the Internet and help to develop state-of-the-art mobile and enterprise technologies.”
