NSU Alum named Interim Superintendent of Port Arthur Independent School District
Mark L. Porterie, Ed. D., who received his doctorate from NSU’s Abraham S. Fischler School of Education, has recently been named Interim Superintendent of Port Arthur Independent School District in Port Arthur, Texas.
Porterie has been an educator in the Port Arthur Independent School District for 21 years. During his tenure, he was a teacher and a principal at the campus level and has also held several administrative positions in the PAISD. Porterie began his career as a fifth-grade teacher in one of the district’s elementary schools; he then taught in the Gifted and Talented program at another elementary. After serving as an Assistant Principal, he was promoted to the position of Principal at that campus where he served for four years. In 2006, Porterie was promoted to the position of Assistant to the Superintendent, and in the ensuing seven years, he was promoted to Assistant Superintendent and then Deputy Superintendent. He is presently serving as Interim Superintendent for the PAISD.
Porterie is a past president of the United Way and has served as a board member of the Chamber of Commerce. He is currently serving on the board of the YMCA and serving as President for the Port Arthur Rotary Club. He was recently named the “Man of the Year” by the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Support Group of Southeast Texas Inc.
