NSU Alum Helps Nursing Student Through Common Knowledge Scholarship

Sandra Brown, J.D. and Jonathan Aguiriano

Nova Southeastern University (NSU) nursing student Jonathan Aguiriano recently became the first Tuition Back Scholarship winner when he won the Sandra Brown Award. The award, funded by NSU alumna Sandra Brown, J.D., was created to reward the highest scoring NSU participant in the national Common Knowledge Scholarship Foundation (CKSF), Nursing – Tuition Back Scholarships.

Aguiriano won a $500 scholarship by taking a series of online quizzes that demonstrated what he learned in his anatomy and physiology course. Not only did he score the highest among NSU participants, but he also ranked 16th out of the 1,029 nursing students that participated in the scholarship nationwide.

Tuition Back Scholarships provide students the chance to win back tuition one course at a time without having to fill out forms or write essays that take time away from studying. This revolutionary scholarship concept rewards college students who study hard and master their course content.

Aguiriano expressed his gratitude when he won, after applying for countless other scholarships on various websites and not expecting any returns. Although he took anatomy and physiology over a year ago, he explained how the scholarship reinforced the material he needed for his current nursing courses.

Brown, a 1991 NSU graduate, highlighted the importance of giving back to one’s alma mater. Having studied at NSU on scholarships, she truly believes in helping other NSU students.

Brown received her bachelor’s degree from Nova Southeastern University and her law degree from the Florida State University College of Law in 1994. She lives in Atlanta where she practices entertainment law.
