NSU Adds Jessica Cousins to Track and Field Coaching Staff

Jessica Cousins , new assistant coach for the men's and women's track and field teams

Jessica Cousins, new assistant coach for the men’s and women’s track and field teams, was a member of the University of Arkansas and Team USA Track and Field teams.

Nova Southeastern University cross country/track and field head coach Bryan Hagopian has announced the hiring of Jessica Cousins as assistant coach for the men’s and women’s track and field teams.

Cousins comes to NSU from Howard University, where she spent three years as the assistant coach and director of operations of their men’s and women’s track and field teams.

“We’re really excited to have Jessica here,” said Hagopian. “She brings knowledge and experience from working at Howard University and competing at a high level at both the University of Arkansas and Team USA Track and Field that will help our program get to the next level. We’re excited for Jessica to be in the Sharks family. We look forward to having a great season with Jessica leading the sprinters and hurdles.”

Originally from South Carolina, Cousins earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas. She was twice named All-American while competing with the Razorbacks. Cousins placed second in both the 2007 SEC Indoor Championships in Lexington, Kentucky and the SEC Outdoor Championships that same season in Auburn, Alabama. At the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Sacramento, California she placed fourth.

After graduation, Cousins stayed at Arkansas and served as an academic advisor for one season and as a volunteer assistant coach for five seasons, while also competing as an athlete on the USA Track and Field Elite team. She participated in the 2010 USA Indoor Championships, as well as for the 2010 and 2012 USA World Indoor Track and Field teams and the 2011 USA Pan American team. As an alternate on the 2010 USA World team, she placed first in the 4×400 in Doha, Qatar.

Before transferring to Arkansas, Cousins was a member of the Clemson Tigers track and field squad and was a 2003 ACC Champion in the 4×400 relay.
