NSU 4th Annual Pre-Health Day was a Success
On April 14, the Office of Career Development and Halmos College collaborated to host the students at the 4th annual Pre-Health Day. This event allows NSU undergraduates to participate in mock interview sessions with health professionals. The program was opened by Halmos College Dean Richard Dodge, Ph.D. and Executive Associate Dean for Administration, Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine Irving Rosenbaum, D.P.A., Ed.D. Presentations were made by professionals in the health care industry, with 12 of them being NSU alumni. A list of the presenters, their presentations, and abstracts are available at http://nsuworks.nova.edu/prehealth-day/.
After the interview, the students were given immediate feedback. This allowed them to improve their interview techniques. Over 100 undergraduates attended the event. Additionally to the mock interviews, the students attended a resource fair. There they learned about various research labs, medical internship programs, medical scribe, and other pre-health related opportunities.
This event is a collaborative effort between the 9 NSU colleges. 40 volunteers from various departments in the Halmos College of Natural Sciences and Oceanography, the College of Undergraduate Studies, the College of Pharmacy, the Dr. Pallavi Patel College of Health Care Sciences, the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine and Osteopathic Medicine, the College of Medicine, the College of Optometry, and the College of Dental Medicine.
Sophomore biology major Svilen Guenov stated that, “Attending the event has allowed me to improve my communication skills, gain knowledgeable skills, develop networking skills with professionals and students, and immensely build my motivation and confidence for my future path to health care.”
Pre-health day provides a great opportunity for students to network with professionals and learn skills to make them better candidates for graduate school.
