November Proves an Active Month for Undergraduate Admissions Recruiting
Five main campus events filled the calendar in November, providing a variety of opportunities for prospective undergraduate students. The Dual Admission and Honors Program Expo, on November 9, brought over one hundred guests to campus to learn about the programs from panels led by faculty and students. NSU President George L. Hanbury II, Ph.D., and Don Rosenblum, Ph.D., Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences (FCAS) dean, welcomed the crowd in the Alfred and Rose Miniaci Performing Arts Center.
Prospective students enjoyed New Majors Day on November 11, which took advantage of the Veterans Day holiday at local public schools. Guests were given an American flag lapel pin to honor the day, as they made their way to admissions and faculty sessions.
Two Dinner with the Dean events were held in November. On November 14, Dean Kimberly Durham, Psy.D., of the Institute for the Study of Human Service, Health, and Justice welcomed interested prospective students. On November 21, Dean Don Rosenblum, Ph.D., of FCAS, hosted the dinner for students interested in programs offered by the Social and Behavioral Sciences division of the college. Nearly seventy guests braved a sudden, extreme rain storm to learn about their intended majors and enjoy a talk on what makes, and keeps, people attracted to one another by Assistant Professor Valerie Starratt, Ph.D..
A new event, The International Faces of NSU, occurred on November 18, the first day of International Education Week. Prospective students viewed an exhibit of study abroad and travel study photographs taken by faculty and students and heard from panels about the adventures; learned how an undergraduate degree can prepare students for careers in the global marketplace from David Rosenblum, Presidential Fellow and Foreign Affairs Officer from the United States Department of State; discovered the merits of participating in NSU’s Model United Nations program, and enjoyed songs sung in several languages from members of the Bossa Nova Chorale, led by Assistant Professor of the FCAS Division of Performing and Visual Arts, Jennifer Donelson, D.M.A..
