NSU equals Barry for most mentions in conference, breaks program record

Five Nova Southeastern University players snagged seven All-Sunshine State Conference tennis nods as the awards were announced by the league office on Friday morning.

The No. 5 Sharks, heading to the NCAA South Regional this weekend, had three singles players and two doubles teams honored in the coaches’ voting. Petra Jurova (Jr., Bratislava, Slovakia) earned an All-SSC First Team singles distinction following her debut season with the squad, and was also selected as a Second Team doubles combination alongside fellow first-year Shark Irina Constantinide (Jr., Galati, Romania).

Both Constantinide and Sabrina Kierberg (Jr., Munich, Germany) were Second Team singles honorees, while the doubles team of Alexandra Johansson (Sr., Sydney, Australia) and Alex Kaeser (So., Woodstock, Ga.) was a Second Team doubles pair as well.

“I am very proud of our team and we’ve worked extremely hard together to earn these awards,” said head coach Stephen Schram. “It’s nice to see that our hard work has paid off and I am very excited for the future of our women’s tennis program here at NSU. It’s a great day to be a Shark.”

The Sharks matched Barry with seven different first- and second-team nods for the most conference-wide, while Lynn had six and Saint Leo four. The seven players recognized is also the most in NSU program history, surpassing six players garnering an award in 2006-07.

Here is the full list of 2015 All-SSC honorees:
Player of the Year – Valentine Confalonieri, Lynn
Freshman of the Year – Sonja Larsen, Barry
Coach of the Year – Avi Kigel, Barry
