No. 4 Tennis Places Second in Initial NCAA South Region Rankings
The No. 4 Nova Southeastern University tennis team entered into the first NCAA Regional Rankings of the 2015 season as the second-ranked squad in the South, as released on Wednesday.
The Sharks (16-1, 6-1 SSC) were 11-0 against DII competition as of the deadline to input results on Monday. They place behind only nationally-ranked No. 2 Barry, who put the first mark in NSU’s loss column Tuesday, and are ahead of fellow Sunshine State Conference schools Saint Leo (No. 4) and Lynn (No. 5). Gulf South representative West Florida is the only non-SSC team in the top five, slotting third.
“We are very happy to see that the program is making progress,” said head coach Stephen Schram. “It’s exciting to see the growth over one year.”
Rounding out the eight teams ranked in the South Region on Wednesday are No. 6 Shorter, No. 7 Valdosta State and No. 8 Stillman.
NSU has their final conference match of the regular season this Saturday, welcoming Florida Southern to the NSU Tennis Center at 11 a.m. Their last battle prior to postseason play will be a week from that, April 18, hosting Palm Beach Atlantic on Senior Day with a 2 p.m. start.
