National Library Worker’s Day Luncheon

NSU Libraries hosted a luncheon at the Alvin Sherman Library on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, to recognize the valuable contributions made by all library workers in celebration of National Library Workers Day. Staff and student workers from the Alvin Sherman, Health Professions Division (HPD), Law, and Oceanography libraries were invited to enjoy a delicious lunch and participate in National Library Week Team Challenge activities. Lydia M. Acosta, Vice President for Information Services and University Librarian, also expressed her appreciation.

Each year, NSU Libraries celebrate National Library Week by engaging staff members in a team competition comprised of various events. This year’s challenges included an iPad Video Contest and an Art Project in honor of the 2014 National Library Week theme: Lives Change @ Your Library. Team videos were presented during Tuesday’s luncheon and evaluated by two special guest judges: Weylin Sternglanz, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Psychology, and Cathleen Dean, Adjunct Professor and Documentary Filmmaker from the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences. Also taking place during the luncheon was the Art Project, in which four members from each team were given one hour to build a ‘library of the future’ out of found and recycled materials.  Adriane Clarke from Broward County Cultural Division and Nanette Saylor from Trash2Treasure were welcomed as guest judges.

The National Library Week Team Challenges, as well as the National Library Worker’s Day Luncheon, are highly anticipated annual events that help foster cooperation and camaraderie among NSU Libraries staff.
