Microbiology Professor’s Children’s Book Has Lessons for All Ages
Earlier this year, the Venetian Arts Society, in collaboration with John Knox Village and Nova Southeastern University, held its inaugural ArtSage Alliance Festival at The Village Tower of John Knox Village in Pompano Beach. The ArtSage Alliance was created, in part, to “enrich the individual lives of all in our community through meaningful and purposeful artistic presentations.”
To help define and highlight its intergenerational mission, ArtSage chose to spotlight the work of one NSU professor.
Bindu Mayi, Ph.D., is a professor of microbiology at NSU. She is also the author of Mrs. A, a children’s book. The book tells the story of a bullied middle-schooler who undergoes a transformation after meeting his mother’s employer, a wise and kind woman named Mrs. A. Woven into the plot are lessons in personal health, education, relationships, and more. Additionally, the story educates the reader about the infectious disease known as MRSA.
Mayi’s book has been widely received by educators, students, and parents alike, as evidenced by its more than 140 five-star reviews.
