Miami Author Robert Andrew Powell to Speak on Campus about Life on the Mexican-American Border, Oct. 1

Robert Andrew Powell

Robert Andrew Powell

The Farquhar College of Arts and Science will welcome Miami author Robert Andrew Powell to the NSU campus. Powell is the author of This Love Is Not for Cowards, which chronicles a season of soccer and the hope it inspires in Ciudad Juarez, an impoverished city across the Rio Grande where Mexico’s human trafficking and violent drug trade have taken a deadly toll. This talk will focus on Mexico, Mexican-American relations, and life on the border within the context of Powell’s book.

The event is supported by the Stolzenberg-Doan Family Endowment, sponsored by James Doan, Ph.D., professor at the college.

“This Love Is Not For Cowards”
Wednesday, October 1
7:00 p.m.
Carl DeSantis Building | Room 3044

Powell’s work as a journalist has appeared in Harper’s, The New York Times, Sports Illustrated, Slate, and The Best American Sports Writing anthology, among others. He also is the author of Running Away and We Own This Game, and he is the recipient of a James Beard Award for food writing.

The event is free and open to everyone. For more information, contact Gary Gershman, J.D., Ph.D., professor at the college, at (954) 262-8211.
