Men’s Golf Alum Santiago Gomez Helps Lead Colombia to Victory
Former Nova Southeastern University men’s golfer and NCAA All-American Santiago Gomez represented his home country, Colombia in the 70th Annual Fedegolf International Team Cup Championships. The event began the 70-year celebration of the national governing body in the David Gutierrez field club Los Lagartos in Bogota.
Teaming up with fellow Colombian teammate Nicolas Echavarria, Gomez helped lead team Colombia to victory in the 70th International Team Cup finals. Competing against two-man teams from countries all over South America and Europe, the duo combined to score a four-round 559 which blew away the nearly 30-team field by 15 strokes.
“It’s always a great feeling to win in my home country,” Gomez said. “More importantly, I felt supported by a lot of good people throughout the week, which helped keep my confidence during the tournament. In addition, the course we played is one of my favorite in Columbia and I think it fits my game very well.”
The former Sharks standout, Gomez graduated from NSU in 2016 with a degree in business management. On the course, he was an All-American, the NCAA DII Jack Nicklaus Player of the Year and the Sunshine State Conference Men’s Golfer of the Year among many other honors. In 2015, he also helped lead Nova Southeastern to their second national championship title.
