Memorable Moments from NSU’s Homecoming 2012 Celebration

Homecoming 2012 may be over, but the memories live on. Catch up on the events you might have missed or relive great moments from one of the most enjoyable weeks of NSU’s annual fall semester:

Women’s Volleyball Game on Tuesday, Nov. 6 (Click here for photo gallery)

We had the stuff-a-shark event during the volley ball game. The first 100 students at the game got a ticket. After the first match, all those with a ticket were able to build their own shark, complete with a homecoming t-shirt for their new shark. The students loved this activity!

Anything That Floats Raft Races on Wednesday, Nov. 7 (Click here for photo gallery)

Thirty-seven boats got in the water, some sunk right away, and others made it around the lake and back. Many students came out to the event for Hungry Howie’s pizza, popcorn, snow cones, and cotton candy, and cheered on their friends. Six boats competed in the final heat and the winners were as follows:

  • Nature Club took first place. The crew included: Shannon Aldridge, Ian Towne, Brittany White, Julio Otano III, Erica Oliva, and Collier Strenkert.
  • SWER took second place. The crew included: Antonella Sanchez, Michelle Do, Anushka Ram, John Iannotti, Dwight Hinds, and Jonathon Martinez.
  • Rosen’s Rowers took third place. The crew included: Rachel Norcross, Paige Swalley, Milana Katz, Angelo Capobianco, Zach Cain, and Austin Wagar.

Flight Deck Follies on Wednesday, Nov. 7 (Click here for photo gallery)

At the 16th Annual Flight Deck Follies, six male students dressed in drag and competed for the title of Miss Flight Deck. More than 550 students came out to support their friends, and have a good laugh.

Homecoming Bash on Thursday, Nov. 8

The big Homecoming Bash, sponsored by the Undergraduate SGA, was held at Passion Night Club at Hard Rock. It was a huge success! Many students attended and dressed to impress.

At the Homecoming Tailgate, we said farewell and great job to all the Fall sports teams and welcomed in the Winter sport season. NSU President George L. Hanbury, II came to wish everyone a happy homecoming. There was basketball, corn hole, shark pong, free food, and homecoming t-shirts!


After the tailgate, everyone proceeded to the Women’s basketball game (Click here for photo gallery). During halftime the Homecoming Court winners were announced. The results are as follows:

  • Freshmen Prince: Joseph Personelli, Freshmen Princess: Daniela Kletkin
  • Sophomore Prince: Brandon Pratts, Sophomore Princess: Catalina Venegas
  • Junior Prince: Marco Baez, Junior Princess: Isabella Troncoso
  • Senior King: Jonathan Martinez, Senior Queen: Sara Gawish
