Medical Student Elected to Lead National Student Group

Third-year Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine (NSU-COM) student Britani Martinez was recently elected national president elect for the American Medical Student Association (AMSA). As national president, she will chair the AMSA Board of Trustees, the organization’s highest governing body. After her graduation in May 2014, she will take a year off before beginning her residency to commit to the role.
The honor makes her part of an elite group of students that focuses on the direction and the financial assets of the organization. Martinez will travel the country to represent the nation’s medical students on topics such as medical student debt and pharmaceutical influence in medical education. She is only the second osteopathic student in AMSA’s 63-year history to win the prestigious role.
AMSA is a student-governed, national organization committed to representing the concerns of medical students, premedical students, interns, residents and practicing physicians. Founded in 1950, AMSA is the nation’s oldest and largest independent association of future physicians.
