Medical School Alumna Receives Child Advocacy Award
Lisa Gwynn, D.O., M.B.A., CPE, FAAP
The Pediatrics Club of NSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine recently honored Lisa Gwynn, D.O., M.B.A., CPE, FAAP, with the Arnold Melnick Child Advocacy Award for her contributions to the field of pediatrics.
Gwynn is medical director for the University of Miami Pediatric Mobile Clinic/Children’s Health Fund South Florida Project and assistant clinical professor in pediatrics at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine. A 1998 alumna of NSU-COM, she completed her postgraduate medical training in pediatrics at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida.
The mission of the Pediatric Mobile Clinic is to provide comprehensive medical and mental health care, social service assistance, and case management services to underserved children and families—regardless of the ability to pay. The clinic also strives to promote health education and healthy living in the communities served and to train future health care providers for careers that will reduce health care disparities.
Gwynn also has more than 12 years of experience in the non-profit sector. In 2002, she co-founded the Darrell Gwynn Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports individuals with paralysis and offers injury prevention programs in high schools throughout Florida.
The Arnold Melnick Child Advocacy award was named after the founding dean of NSU-COM. The college’s Pediatrics Club established the award and presents it each year to individuals in South Florida who promote children’s causes.
