Management Professor Presents Research on Plagiarism
Randi L. Sims, Ph.D., professor of management at the H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship, recently presented her research study at the 18th Annual International Conference Promoting Business Ethics held in New York City. The study is entitled, “Student Misconceptions About Academic Standards of Original Work and Plagiarism: The Use of Electronic Testing as an Active Educational Tool.”
The study tested 176 undergraduate management students to determine how much they knew about academic standards of original work and plagiarism using a 15-item online quiz. The purpose of the paper was to share the results of the online quiz, discuss the most common student misconceptions about academic standards of original work and to suggest ways in which faculty can help their students overcome these misconceptions.
