Mailman Segal Families Celebrate a Transformational Year Together
“Teachers encourage minds to think, hands to create, and hearts to love.” ~Anonymous
After two unforgettable years together, the families of the Sapphire Suns (formerly the Snuggly Seahorses) room at Mailman Segal Center hosted a celebration on August 10 to honor their teachers. The room was filled with laughter, tears, and stories as families reflected on their collective journey together, the challenges they’ve overcome, and the shared moments of joy. During each quarterly gathering, families brought their favorite foods to share and one mom even created a photo booth frame for fun family photos at the celebration. These gatherings have served as an opportunity to spend quality time together, build lasting relationships with one another, and share stories regarding what individuals appreciate most about the teachers. “Ms. Carolyn, Ms. Sherice, Ms. Jenny, Ms. Cristina, and Ms. Amirah have made a lasting difference on our children and families, and we will always be grateful for their contributions and love,” notes Terry Morrow Nelson.
At the end of the celebration, each family was given a book with pictures of their child that illustrated the developmental experiences and moments throughout her/his development. Since the curriculum is guided by the 5 Cs, which include intentional age-appropriate developmental activities that promote critical thinking, concept development, communication, cooperation, and creativity, the book was filled with pictures and notes about how the child developed in each of the 5 areas.
In reflecting on our experience together, Pradeep Vanguri, father of Nina and Maya – both students of Ms. Carolyn – said, “Ms. Caroline and her staff always went above and beyond to make families feel welcomed and loved. Our kids have greatly benefited from their guidance during this early childhood stage. They will forever be linked to us as our kid’s first teachers.”
