Library’s Ferro Series Delights with “Musical Instrument Petting Zoo”
NSU’s Alvin Sherman Library, Research and Information Technology Center, through a generous gift from the Charles P. Ferro Foundation, has been offering free, interactive arts programs for families and children through the “Live at the Sherman Library! Bringing Stories to Life” series.
The program Classical Music for Kids and Instrument Petting Zoo, recently attracted more than 250 young library patrons. A quintet of orchestra musicians performed Sergei Prokofiev’s musical story Peter and the Wolf. In addition to playing music, the musicians explained how each instrument represents a different character in the story.
The concert was followed by an instrument “petting zoo” where each child had an opportunity to play each instrument. (The instruments were sanitized after each child with a non-toxic, mint flavored gel specially designed for musical instruments.)
