About the Talk
Grosso will discuss the relative roles and influence of science, law, and policy in responding to challenges posed by climate change, sea level rise, and related phenomena. The talk will focus on how incomplete or uncertain science interacts with law and policy when local, state, and federal agencies make planning and regulatory decisions, which impact where and how we develop land, locate and expand infrastructure, and write and amend environmental and land-use laws. Grosso will also explore the potential conflicts between the private-property rights of landowners and the government’s responsibility to protect the public’s health, safety, and welfare.
About the Series
Hosted by the college’s Division of Math, Science, and Technology, the Climate-Sustainability Lecture Series aims to increase the understanding of the science, technology, and policies relating to climate change and sustainable development. Experts in related fields from within NSU and other institutions are featured speakers. These lectures give faculty members and students the opportunity to discuss the scientific, technological, social, and policy aspects of sustainability-related issues.
