As part of NSU’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebration, the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences will host a guest talk discussing the use of Spanish in the United States.

About the Talk
This presentation will explore the linguistic, historical, and social aspects of Spanish in the United States. Lynch will focus on Spanish and its contact with English, including the status of bilingualism in America and the development and usage of “Spanglish.” The talk will also discuss linguistic variation within the Spanish language, particularly Spanish spoken within various U.S. Hispanic communities.
About the Speaker
Andrew Lynch is an associate professor of Spanish and Latin American Studies at the University of Miami. He also serves as associate chair of UM’s Department of Modern Languages & Literature and is the director of the university’s Spanish Heritage Language Program.
