Law Professor Serves on Panel on the Right to Counsel for Children in Dependency

Michael Dale, professor of law at NSU’s Shepard Broad Law Center, was a panelist for a discussion titled “Right to Counsel for Children in Dependency” held at the University of Miami School of Law on Apr. 5.

The panel discussion explored the role a lawyer should have for a child in the dependency court and what barriers exist in Florida law allowing lawyers to represent children. Other panelists were Bernard Perlmutter, the director of the children and youth law clinic at the University of Miami School of Law, and the Honorable Rosemay Barkett from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Dale is the author of more than 70 articles focusing primarily on juvenile and children’s law topics and is also the author of the two volume text Representing the Child Client, published by Matthew Bender Co. He speaks regularly to professional groups on children’s law and litigation topics.
