Law Professor Continues Work on Child Advocacy

As part of his work with the National Institute For Trial Advocacy (NITA), Michael Dale, professor of law at the Shepard Broad Law Center, completed training for lawyers representing parties in abuse and neglect cases at the weeklong Rocky Mountain Child Advocacy Training Institute in Louisville, Colo., in May and the weeklong Representing the Whole Child Child Advocacy Training at Hofstra Law School in June. He was also the lead teacher at the three-day Connecticut Child Advocacy Trial Skills Training this month in Avon, Conn., and he will be the lead teacher at a two-and-a half-day trial skills training for Florida DCF lawyers in Miami beginning July 7.

For his work with the NITA, Dale received the institute’s 2009 Robert Oliphant Award for Service. He will also coauthor a NITA case file on juvenile delinquency with professor J.C. Lore, who runs the juvenile law clinic at Rutgers Camden Law School.

Dale has also been invited to speak on “Ethical Issues in the Representation of Children” at the ABA Presidential Showcase during the ABA Annual Convention in San Francisco on Aug. 7.
