Law Enforcement Officers from across South Florida Graduate from CJI’s Executive Leadership Program
Law enforcement and public safety officer s from across South Florida graduated recently from Nova Southeastern University’s (Nova) Criminal Justice Institute’s Executive Leadership Program (ELP). The graduation serves as the culmination of a 17-week program designed for mid- and upper-level managers in law enforcement, detention, fire rescue, and related public safety agencies.
The ELP is a partnership among the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Nova and the Sheriff’s Foundation of Broward County which focuses on the development of key leadership competencies. The venture provides advanced leadership training for senior and supervisory public safety officers, access to Nova’s bachelor’s and master’s programs in criminal justice and shared resources in the development of training and research programs specifically related to meeting the needs of the criminal justice and public safety communities.
Beginning in fall 2011, those in the private and public safety arena such as law enforcement and corrections, as well as individuals with law degrees or others considering a career change will also be able to take advantage of CJI’s newest program: a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice which will open opportunities in areas such as research, academia and management.
Since its inception in 2007, ELP students have come from police, corrections and fire departments in Broward, Monroe, Palm Beach, Martin and Marion counties. Courses are taught by a team of university professors and professionals from the law enforcement community who cover topics in labor relations, crisis and emergency management, budget and finance, leadership practices, stress management, organizational behavior, performance management, emerging technologies, and organizational change and strategic management.
Irv Rosenbaum, D.P.A., Ed.D., M.P.A., Nova Health Professions Division, provost and executive dean for administration and Broward Sheriff Al Lamberti, chief law enforcement officer of Broward County addressed the graduates. Lt. Eduardo Rosende from the Broward Sheriff’s Office served as this year’s spokesperson.
