Jurova Joins NSU Tennis Squad for Spring Season
The Nova Southeastern University tennis team and head coach Stephen Schram are pleased to announce the addition of junior transfer Petra Jurova to the squad, beginning with this spring season.
Jurova comes to the Sharks after playing two years at Fresno Pacific, another DII school located in Fresno, California. She originally hails from Bratislava, Slovakia.
Most recently, as a sophomore for the Sunbirds, she was their No. 1 player, and finished the season as the No. 10-ranked singles player in all of DII with a 20-4 record. She also was part of their No. 17 doubles team, going 16-9.
“Petra is a world class tennis player,” said Schram. “She was a standout student-athlete at Division II Fresno Pacific and finished the 2014 season ranked No. 10 in the nation in singles and No. 17 in the nation in doubles. I look forward to working with Petra over the next couple of years and watching her excel both in the classroom and on the tennis court.”
Jurova also had a stellar debut campaign the year prior. She was part of the NCCAA National Championship-winning FPU team as a freshman and had a 25-4 record in singles, with most of those matches coming as the Sunbirds’ No. 2, where she was 21-2. She also had a 26-4 doubles mark, with 25 of those wins coming as the No. 1 duo. Following the year, she finished as the No. 26-ranked player in DII singles and as part of the No. 13 doubles squad in the nation.
She joins a roster of 11 Shark players that will begin the spring season at home on Feb. 5. They will take on the St. Thomas Bobcats at the NSU Tennis Center starting at 3 p.m. That is followed by four non-conference matches before the SSC opener, Feb. 21 in Melbourne against Florida Tech. The first home conference matchup will be against Lynn, March 16 at 2 p.m.
