July Health Tip – Maintain Your Health During New School Year

Submitted by Robert S. Oller, D.O.
Chief Executive Officer
Division of Clinical Operations

As we prepare for the upcoming semester with the arrival of new students or even seeing our own young family and friends making the step into higher education, there are challenges that even us — as educators — need to remember.

Even though college is full of exciting new things, from meeting people to living away from home, college can also be stressful as you try to develop new routines, live on a limited budget, and manage responsibilities on your own. Follow these easy tips and information from the Center for Disease Control in mind to stay safe and healthy in college.

•    Get Check-ups
•    Get Vaccinated
•    Fight Fatigue and Sleep Deprivation
•    Get Physical Activity
•    Eat a Balanced Diet
•    Maintain Mental Health
•    Avoid Substance Abuse
•    Have Healthy Relationships
•    Prevent Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)

Visit the CDC website for more information on these tips and learn how you can maintain a healthy lifestyle in this new and challenging environment: http://www.cdc.gov/family/college/
