Jamaican Ambassador Spends Day at NSU

President George L. Hanbury II, Ph.D., Her Excellency Ambassador Audrey Patrice Marks, and Dean Michael Fields, Ph.D.

Her Excellency, Jamaican Ambassador Audrey Patrice Marks, visited NSU’s campus on Apr. 12 as part of her four-day official visit to South Florida, the first since becoming ambassador in May of 2010. Ambassador Marks is Jamaica’s tenth ambassador to the United States and permanent Jamaican representative to the Organization of American States

As part of the H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship’s Distinguished Lecture Series, Ambassador Marks – herself a Nova University M.B.A. graduate – delivered a pristine lecture  to more than 120 students, faculty and staff in the Huizenga Sales Institute’s Grand Room, including one of her original professors. Chancellor Ray Ferrero, Jr., J.D., welcomed the ambassador, saying “Ambassador Marks used her education to build an incredible career as an entrepreneur, and now as a world-class diplomat, and we are proud to count her as a Nova alumna.”

Following the lecture, the ambassador met with university and Huizenga Business School administrators and faculty where President George L. Hanbury II, Ph.D. presented her with a plaque in honor of her many achievements in business and politics.

Rounding out a long day of events, Ambassador Marks and the Jamaican Consul General for the southern U.S. hosted a town hall in the evening at the Steele Auditorium in the Health Professions Division. Over 125 community members participated, engaging in a dialogue with Her Excellency about real-world problems facing Jamaicans here in South Florida and in Jamaica. The event was followed by a Jamaican entrepreneurs’ showcase and “Community Meet and Greet” where she interacted with the crowd.
