April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and the Nova Southeastern University Athletics Department and student-athletes partnered with Student Affairs to bring the NCAA “It’s On Us” initiative to NSU.

NSU held multiple events throughout the week of April 4-8 to educate students, faculty and staff about the need to stop sexual assault. The NSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee spent multiple days manning tables in the Don Taft University Center to encourage people to show their support for the “It’s On Us” movement by signing the pledge to report and help end sexual assault.

“The student-athletes spread awareness by showing the “It’s On Us” video, conducting some trivia and encouraging NSU students, staff, and professors to take the pledge to be part of the solution,” said Laura Barry, coordinator of athletic academic services. “It means so much more when students ask their fellow students to take the pledge. They are typically more vested in the initiative to stop sexual assault on campuses.”

On Tuesday, April 5, a seminar was held to discuss Title IX and sexual misconduct on college campuses. On Wednesday, April 6, there was a free screening of “The Hunting Ground”, which is a documentary about sexual assault on college campuses and follows survivors as they pursue their education while fighting for justice. The film is also being shown on Thursday, April 14 at 6 p.m. at the Knight Auditorium in the Carl DeSantis building.

Below is the video that NCAA Division II put together about the “It’s On Us” movement.
