Introducing the Matrix Math Column—Solve Monthly Problem to Win Prize

The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Division of Math, Science, and Technology is aiming to prove that math can apply to various disciplines, general life situations, and even humor. Enter the Matrix, a new online column dedicated to mathematics and its diverse applications.

Each issue of Matrix will include an application to mathematics presented in a way that undergraduate students of all disciplines may enjoy. Each issue will also include a Problem of the Month, created by faculty members in the division. The first student to submit a correct answer to the problem will win a prize. The contest is open to all current NSU students and alumni.

The theme for the premiere issue of Matrix is logic, which illustrates how mathematics interacts with philosophy. While the Problem of the Month is a logic question, readers unfamiliar with mathematical logic can still uncover the solution.

For more information about Matrix, contact Abdelkrim Bourouihiya, Ph.D.
