NSU Alumni Spotlight: International Halmos Alumna Continues Marine Research in Madagascar
After coming to NSU on a Fullbright Scholarship, M.S. in Coastal Zone Management alumna Vola Ramahery returned to her home country of Madagascar after graduating in 2006. Since then she has been working with NGOs in marine conservation. She specializes in community-based fisheries management, coastal and marine habitats survey, marine protected areas, coastal people livelihoods, and climate change adaptation.
Currently she works at the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) Antananarivo as the Scientific Monitoring Officer for the Marine Program. She is involved in research works and surveys which results contribute in the adaptive management of MPAs and seascapes where WCS intervenes. The WCS Madagascar Program works throughout Madagascar to ensure the long-term conservation of the country’s unique biological diversity with a focus on activities in priority landscape/seascapes.
