Institute for the Study of Human Service, Health and Justice Hosts Aviation Safety Seminar
Recently, Nova Southeastern University (NSU), in collaboration with Embraer Aircraft, proudly hosted the 2015 International Civil Aviation Organization Regional Aviation Safety Group – Pan American Aviation Safety Seminar. The purpose of the annual seminar is to provide a forum to discuss current safety and human factor issues within the aviation industry. The goal of the seminar is to stress to aviation leaders and insiders the critical need for a continual focus on the prevention or reduction of flight related accidents and to increase overall safety awareness.
Topics discussed included, but were not limited to: safety culture in the industry; high altitude risk management; runway excursion; and mid-air collision. The 86 seminar participants represented states, aviation professionals, flight students, and academia. A distinguished panel of aviation experts included:
Eduardo Chain, Air Safety Officer, Regional Aviation Safety Group- Pan America (RASG-PA); Peter Stein, Director of Aviation, Johnson Controls; Marco Vidal, Phraseology Instructor, International Air Transport Association (IATA); Gabriel Acosta, IATA Regulatory Compliance, International Air Transport Association (IATA); Jay Rodriquez, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA); Brian Gonzales, Air Traffic Systems Manager, American Airlines; Captain Jyri Strandman, DO and VP, Flight Operations, Spirit Airlines; Bruce W. Joseph, Director, Regulatory Compliance and Internal Evaluation Programs, Spirit Airlines. In addition, NSU, Embry-Riddle University, Florida Memorial University and the Florida Institute of Technology hosted informational tables at the two-day event.
